Denise LaiDENISE LAI
BA, B.SocSc (Hons), M.Ed.
General Manager
Founder & Director of Programmes,
Head Educator & Therapist

For Founder and Managing Director, Denise, Wee Care is the vehicle for creativity in guiding children and their parents. "I am compelled to find workable solutions to complex problems, while expressing what I believe in and helping parents and children grow without being bound by convention and tradition," she says. Therefore, she constantly updates the teaching methods used at the Centre to stay at the forefront of Infant Development, Early Education and Early Rehabilitation.

Her strong grounding in psychology, linguistics and education, as well as the vast experience gained from working with children with a wide range of developmental levels in Hong Kong, Indonesia, India and Singapore, enable her to design and develop innovative and concrete programmes without resorting to fads and hype. She also trains and supervises the educators at Wee Care, ensuring that all of them meet and even exceed the high educational and performance requirements of the Company.

Denise, a former Humanities Scholar, holds a Master of Education degree from Sheffield University, UK, an Honours degree in Psychology and a degree in Linguistics, both from the National University of Singapore. She is married, with three children, and is currently working towards her Doctorate in Education, a degree that will be dually awarded by the National Institute of Education (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) and Institute of Education (University of London, UK).

"We know how to teach, and how to have fun!"

WHY BECOME A WEE CARE HOME BUDDY?

Getting yourself accredited as a Home Buddy at Wee Care gives you something that is hard to buy… a good name! The results of a recent survey conducted on parental perceptions of Wee Care showed that at least half of the parents polled cited INTEGRITY and TRUSTWORTHINESS as key characteristics of the school. These are values that have been built and established over 12 years, since the school’s inception.

Home Buddies selected after a rigorous recruitment process will be able to take advantage of the following benefits:
  1. a broad and comprehensive training programme incorporating both theoretical and applied (practical) sessions
  2. regular supervision, and a more experienced therapist to talk to!
  3. toys and resources for use from the main Wee Care centre,
  4. flexible working hours, if required, and
  5. other little administrative perks, since billings and payments are all handled through the main Wee Care office
In time, Wee Care will establish links between the Home Buddy License with the work of reputed Universities or specialist clinicians around the world, so that this mode of local accreditation becomes accredited internationally itself.

If you are interested in being considered as a future Home Buddy, please write to the following e-mail address: weecare@singnet.com.sg indicating "Home Buddy Accreditation Enquiry" in the header. Please furnish us with a recent photo and an updated resume, to allow us to understand your educational qualifications and working background better. We will get in touch with you as soon as we have received your application!
