Wee Care's Individual
Therapy sessions provide individualised help to children with clinical
diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive
Disorder, Developmental Dyspraxia and Developmental Delay.
The therapy sessions
revolve around an Individualised Educational Plan (IEP) that incorporates
instruction for the specific child's more urgent learning requirements.
They may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Pre-requisite foundational
abilities, such as the Motivation to Learn, good Attention Span
and Self-Control
- Language and
Communication Skills
- Basic Social
Skills, such as Social Exchange and Social Contingencies
- Conceptual
Thought
- Appropriate and
constructive Play Repertoires
Children who have
shown good progress in Individual Therapy may move on to Group
Therapy to learn a wider range of Social Skills, or to take on a combination
of both Individual and Group Therapy programmes.

My
Wee Care Experience
Mrs
TK, whose daughter May, 3, has Autism, says:
"Initially,
May had neither eye contact nor speech. She screamed to request
or to vent her frustrations. After a period of attending the
Individual Therapy programmes, she started to speak. She addressed
family members, named things around her and sang full nursery
rhymes. She also began to interact more.
"We
are satisfied with Wee Care's Early Intervention and Rehabilitation
Team who opened the gate for speech and social awareness.
The environment at the centre is also good for children."

BENEFITS
The individualised
Behavioural Management sessions provide early assistance to children
whose developmental problems may become more difficult to overcome in
a fast-paced, demanding and stressful society.
With intensive help
and a consistent, co-operative structure involving families, schools
and Wee Care's Early Intervention and Rehabilitation Team, the ultimate
benefits for most children are rehabilitation and integration into mainstream
schools and adult life.

My
Wee Care Experience
Ms
S Chan, who son Ben, 3, has Developmental Dyspraxia, says:
"The
Individiual Therapy Programme helped Ben to address specific
areas of difficulty, including speech and social skills. I
also learnt how to help my son.
"Members
of Wee Care's Early Intervention and Rehabilitation Team are
creative, knowledgeable and professional. They have the child's
interest at heart. After only one year of therapy, Ben has
shown tremendous improvement in his overall development. He
has since gone on to attend a mainstream kindergarten."

ACTIVITIES
and FORMAT
Hourly or Two-Hourly sessions are conducted once or twice a day, in the child’s home, or in our centre, for as many times a week as the parent deems necessary or useful, up to a maximum of ten (10) sessions per week.
PARENT
/ CAREGIVER INVOLVEMENT
This is essential. Parents and caregivers (up to a maximum of one adult per child) are encouraged to sit in on learning sessions, so that generalisation and maintenance practice sessions can be conducted outside of therapy hours. Families who are consistent in this practice have seen significant progress in their children. In the case of children who are clingy, fretful or distracted however, the therapist-in-charge may ask the parents/caregivers to sit outside of the classroom until the child settles into the routine(s) of learning.
CLASS
SIZE and EDUCATOR-CHILD RATIO
One educator is
assigned to one child in each session.
ADMISSION
and FEES
Children who wish
to be admitted into the Individual Therapy Programme must first attend
a consultation with Wee Care's Senior Therapist. This enables the
Early Intervention and Rehabilitation Team to identify the children's
specific learning needs and subsequently prepare the appropriate Individual
Educational Plans (IEPs).
During the consultation,
parents should provide all the relevant and necessary information
about their child's diagnoses, including reports by child psychologists
where available.

Please note:
- Accredited Home Buddies will be available from Wee Care in the second half of year 2007. Please do write to Mrs Denise Lai at weecare@singnet.com.sg if you are interested in hiring a Home Buddy for your child. Home Buddies are sincere home-teachers who have undergone a rigorous training schedule incorporating both theoretical and applied (practical) sessions.
- At Wee Care, a shared team is in place to serve your child. This means that your child will not be assigned to just one therapist, but at least two, if not three members of our therapy team. Please do attend our admissions "get-to-know-you" meeting for more details. You may call 6836-1450 to book an appointment.
